Wine and Heritage
The roots of the world's first wine will bring you to Qvevri wine in Georgia, where winemaking stretches back over 8000 years of history. According to archaeological evidence, the first Georgian wines were made and stored in earthenware vessels called Qvevri.
The word Qvevri comes from kveuri, „something dug deep in the ground“ as a Georgian winemaking tradition finding its origins deep in rich culture, mythology and folklore. Qvevri winemaking technique is a very unique tradition in Georgia. In the parts of Georgia where winemaking has been practiced for centuries, it is rare for a family not to store wine in Qvevri. Showing the highest form of hospitality to the guests, is to invite them to their cellar and serve wine from newly opened Qvevri.
The Qvevri wine route starts in the most famous winemaking region Kakheti, where you’ll find highly rated, award winning organic wines with rich aroma and tannins.
